First Shabbat After Passover – A Time to Remember and Celebrate

As we welcome the first Shabbat after Passover, we find ourselves in a deeply meaningful stretch of the Jewish calendar. In the coming week, we will observe Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day)Yom HaZikaron (Israel’s Memorial Day), and Yom HaAtzmaut (Israel’s Independence Day)—a powerful arc that takes us from grief and memory to pride and celebration.

For the Jewish people, honoring those who came before us—their struggles, sacrifices, and courage—is just as vital as celebrating our joyous milestones. Here in Milwaukee, we are fortunate to have so many meaningful commemorations, both large and small, that allow our community to reflect, remember, and rejoice together.

I have always felt so proud to be part of this community and to stand in remembrance of the Shoah, in honor of those who fought for the existence of Israel, and in celebration of the vibrant Jewish life we are able to live today. My team and I at Hannah’s Kitchen are especially honored to support and take part in these events—and we’re thrilled to be planning food for the big Yom HaAtzmaut celebration on May 4th. We hope to see you there!

In these challenging times, coming together as a community—no matter your background or level of observance—is more important than ever. One thing I’ve always appreciated about Milwaukee’s Jewish community is the way we connect across differences. We may not be a tiny community, but we’re small enough to feel close-knit, and there is so much strength in our unity.

Let’s continue to show up, stand together, and celebrate all that it means to be Jewish.
